President's Note
Joe Selby
Chapter President

Hello and welcome to the IFMA East Bay Chapter website! Joe Selby

As I start my term as chapter president for the 2008 – 2009 term I want to first thank everyone who has been involved in our chapter activities over the past year.  In particular we all owe a big thank you to Jane Mele, our outgoing president, who has spent the past two years devoting an enormous amount of time and energy keeping this chapter on track and making it a singularly effective resource for facilities professionals.  Jane will continue to serve on our board as immediate past-president and continue to contribute actively to the chapter.  So the next time you see her at a chapter program or meeting, take the time to say thanks for all she’s done and continues to do for our chapter.

The vision statement of IFMA is to “Serve as the resource and representative for facility management.”  The mission statement of IFMA is to “Advance the facility management profession.”  As a chapter our job is to serve both of these goals on a local level to the best of our ability.  Our chapter’s mission statement feeds up into both of these ambitious goalposts in a very direct way:

The East Bay Chapter of IFMA builds value for members through superior educational programs, fun and informative networking events, and forum for professional enhancement. To guide us along this journey or focus will be directed upon four main areas:

•    Outreach to members to grow the membership
•    Communicating the chapter programs and benefits more effectively
•    Focusing on the education and professional development of our members
•    Involvement in community service

As a chapter we can only accomplish these goals through member involvement.  What you get out of your membership in IFMA and in the East Bay Chapter specifically is proportional to what you put into that membership.  The chapter, as a whole, also benefits greatly from broader involvement from its members.  Much of the business of the chapter gets done via committees, and many of our committees benefit from a deep volunteer pool to pull from.  So look over the committees listed on the website and feel free to contact the committee chairs to volunteer to help out.  This is your chapter.
