IFMA Foundation

Established in 1990 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation; the IFMA Foundation is separate entity from IFMA and is supported solely by the generosity of IFMA members,  councils, chapters, corporations and private contributors.  We receive no funding from IFMA.

Each year we endeavor to spend our available funds wisely and make sure they deliver the greatest possible value to the Facility Management community.  2008 was a very exciting and productive year for the IFMA Foundation.  There was significant growth in the annual scholarship program – going from 24 scholarships worth $44,000 in 2007 to 29 scholarships worth $67,500 in 2008. These scholarships are funded by several chapters, councils and a few corporations that recognize the value in investing in the future of the profession.

Since 2006 the IFMA Foundation has published five research projects. They include LEED-EB: Deliver the Green and the Pandemic Preparedness Manual. In 2008 we completed and published Violence in the Workplace, The Role of the Facility Manager, The Business of Green Cleaning and 2008 FM Technology Update. All of these projects were written with the facility mangers perspective in mind and three of the five are available for free as down-loadable PDF’s on the IFMA Foundation web site.

Perhaps the most significant initiative being worked on by the Foundation is the Recognized Degree Program.  Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Affairs, the Foundation is responsible for increasing the number of Facility Management programs and Recognized Degree Programs available in colleges and universities around the world.  This is a huge mission when you consider the fact that it’s estimated there are 10,000 Facility Management positions to be filled in the US each year, and our schools are currently graduating around 500 students with Facility Management degrees each year.  It is our mission to elevate the recognition and status of the facility management profession and make a facility management curriculum as available as architecture and accounting.

By working together, Facility Management will continue to grow in recognition and it’s position in the professional world will be greatly enhanced.  Please consider supporting the IFMA Foundation so we can do our part to achieve these goals.
